Backing up Final cut media

Questioner General

I have quite a mess of original media over several internal and external drives. Some with no back up some with multiple backups.

How can I sort this into a orderly single backup and delete duplicates. Some libraries seem to be just alises. I'm terrified for deleting anything!

Thanks

When you say, "some libraries seem to be just alises" can you provide a screen shot of these?

It does sound like FCP Backup files have been used???

Thanks for your reply. This is a screen shot found using this path. FCP library - reveal in Finder - Show package contents - original media.

They’re all dumplings to media that’s outside the library. Select one, right-click and choose Show Original. It’ll probably tell where all of them are.

Can you tell us the FCPX version, type of Mac, and OS version in use please?

Thanks very much. Now if I backup the library I won't have the original files as it is correct? Do I need to go one at a time and find them!

FCP 10.1.3 iMac late 2013. OS 10.11.6

That’s a very old version. I can’t remember if it could consolidate. Select the library in the sidebar and look in the File menu to see if there is a Consolidate Library function.

media.

The above shows where your Media is stored, all SymLinks to external locations.

However these are not Libraries.
