HomePod Mini drops MacBook sound - poor connectivity

Newly purchased HomePod mini connects to WiFi well, links to iPhone alright, and ‘Hey Siri’ works fine 99% of the time. However, when I’m watching a movie/video on my MacBook Pro (2018; updated) and sync the audio to the HomePod, it is VERY unreliable. It takes a good 5 seconds to sync the audio at first and then frequently drops the audio and causes the video to pause or continue playing with all sound muted. The idea of the HomePod was seamless connectivity with Apple products. This is terrible connectivity and why doesn’t it have Bluetooth as a backup?

We understand that when using the HomePod with your Mac for audio you've run into some issues with connectivity and sound quality.



Let's have you do the following:



  • Make sure Apple ID was invited to the HomeKit setup: Share control of your home
  • Enable iCloud Keychain for the Apple ID: Set up iCloud Keychain
  • Connected devices should be awake and unlocked when initiating audio handoff, and should be on the same Wi-Fi network as the HomePod. This includes either 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
  • Temporarily remove any cases or covers from the iPhone and Mac.
  • Restart the involved devices including the router.

I have a same issue, with iPhone 11, from Apple Music, Youtube everything work great without sound drop. But if I want to use my Macbook Pro 2016, sound if randomly drops 5 times in minute. I try to use only 5GHz wifi, update Homepod Mini to newest software, Mac is updated to latest version of Macbig Sur, reset Homepod Mini, reset Router, but nothing help. Where is a problem? Thank you

Quick update: I managed to connect with the Apple Support folks (very helpful!) and they explained that my Homepod Mini wasn't really syncing up with my wifi router well. So I moved the Homepod right next to the router and had it update and sync and align for a day, then moved it back to where it was in the living room.



It still drops the signal for a second or two every once in a while but it seems to have fixed the issue - which seems to be tied to wifi connectivity. The Homepod uses Wifi and not bluetooth so I think any dropping issues must be tied to that.
