I have an iPhone X and 2 days ago the volume seemed to drop when I was making a call. When I go to settings and put the ringer full volume it works but when I try and use the buttons on the left of the handset the ringer doesn’t go fully off like before and the top volume still seems muted. ? Help please

Hi RemoteControl2,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities! We'd love to help with this unexpected behavior you're noticing on your iPhone when making phone calls and adjusting the volume for the ringer. Let's get to the bottom of it together.

Since you mentioned this occurs when making calls, let's ensure we understand correctly. Is the lowered volume that you're experiencing occurring when you're connected, or while the outgoing call is ringing on the recipient's end?

Do you experience an issue with the volume of the ringer for incoming calls that ring on your device?

If you head into Settings > Sounds & Haptics, let us know if the option to "Change with Buttons" is enabled here. If not, turn it on, and then test again to see if the issue persists, or if you can then use the volume buttons to adjust the volume.

We'd also like to share the following resource. Let us know if the information in this guide helps:

If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker

If you have a protective case or screen film on your iPhone, be sure to remove any such accessory for further testing.

Also, please let us know the exact version of iOS installed. This can be found under Settings > General > About.

Have a great day!
