Are you wearing gloves? If you are it is possible the you are causing the watch to pause when you push on button and crown

If you are, try reversing the watch and wearing the crown towards your elbow instead

You would change the rotation from your iPhone>Watch>General>Watch Orientation>

if you have made no changes to the settings

First try force restarting your iPhone by whatever method your version calls for.  As soon as you see the Apple logo force restart your watch by holding in the crown and side button for 10 seconds till you see the Apple logo then release.  Log into your iPhone and wait for your watch to boot, then log into it.

Then from your iPhone>Watch>Privacy>Reset Fitness Calibration Data>Tap this

You will just get a confirmation box that tells you that your metrics will not be as good if you do this.

Tap confirm and do it. You will get nothing else, no confirmation but it is done.

Then go for a 20 minute outdoor run or walk using the workout app at your normal speed on a flat road/path etc

This will re-calibrate the watch.

Failing that I'd try unpairing the watch from your iPhone then pairing it back setting it up as new.

Also make sure that you have Start Workout Reminder toggled on

From your iPhone>Watch>Workout>Start Workout Reminder>Toggle on

From your iPhone>Watch>Workout>End Workout Reminder>Toggle on

Thank you so much for your reply.

I've checked and start workout reminder is on.

I’ve toggled off Running auto pause and Press to pause in case they were affecting it.

I will try your recalibration idea tomorrow.

Thank you so much for your help.

Brilliant idea. It certainly seems worse this week when I’ve been wearing a different coat and gloves.

I've changed the bevel to the left and shall see.

thank you
